Mortal Kombat Legacy : Episode 1

Last summer, director Kevin Tancheroen unleashed his trailer for Mortal Kombat Rebirth. He showed a much darker and grittier version of Mortal Kombat than we’ve seen in the past. Quickly, the video went viral and fans wanted more. We haven’t heard anything about it til now. Here’s more about the episode:

When Jax realizes time is of the essence to save Sonya, a fellow lieutenant in the Outworld Investigation Agency, from Kano’s deadly hand, he holds nothing back in this action-packed, two-on-one battle to keep a shipment of stolen Robotic Defense Program material out of Kano’s hands. The week before the Mortal Kombat 9 video game comes out, a new live action web series “Mortal Kombat Legacy” directed by Kevin Tancheroen has been released. The Waner Bros.-backed series is rated TV-MA for profanity and violence. Some of the same people from Mortal Kombat Rebirth are back Jax (Michael Jai White) and Sonya Blade (Jeri Ryan) along with new characters Kurtis Stryker (Tahmoh Penikett) and Kano (Darren Shahlavi). The first video has plenty of action alongside special effects. (Supposedly episode 2 will have Sonya Blade kicking ass and a showdown between Jax and Kano.) A total of nine episodes have been created for Season 1. Confirmed characters for season 1 include Johnny Cage (Matt Mullins), Scorpion (Ian Anthony Dale), and Kitana (Sam Tjhia). Mortal Kombat Legacy just started and Season 2 is expected to have Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Stay tuned for the future episodes.

Fight Night Champion video game with Manny Pacquiao

Fight Night Champion video game

EA announced today that EA SPORTS Fight Night Champion is now available in North America and will launch worldwide on March 4, 2011. Fight Night Champion is an intense and deep new mature experience that builds on the rich legacy of the Fight Night series, which is one of the most critically acclaimed sports franchises of the past five years.

Fight Night Champion features new gameplay innovation that delivers the rawness and brutality of the most realistic boxing simulation ever created. The title is packed with a deep menu of new modes and features, including: the all-new cinematic, narrative-driven Champion Mode; more than 50 licensed boxers including Manny Pacquiao, Muhammad Ali, and Mike Tyson ; Full Spectrum Punch Control; the deepest career mode yet, Online Gyms, and much more.

Fight Night Champion also introduces a host of gameplay improvements. The refined punching system, dubbed “Full Spectrum Punch Control”, brings the most accessible and responsive controls ever to a Fight Night title. A new anaerobic stamina system tracks individual muscle groups separately, punishing a player’s overdependence on a single punch and encourages combination punching and diligent stamina management. In addition, improved visuals, multiple control schemes, realistic damage, boxer-specific animations and multiple stun states round out the key gameplay improvements players will experience in Fight Night Champion.

Fight Night Champion is available for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The game has been rated M by the ESRB, and 16+ by PEGI. The Fight Night Champion demo is currently available on Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network. Wonder if Manny Pacquiao will have a copy at his crib?

Giant Robot’s 8 bit video game car

Giant Robot's 8 bit video game car

The folks over at Giant Robot modified a Scion into a video game car inspired by the 8-bit Nintendo Famicom system. The pop doors on the car have round red push buttons like arcade games and make various Super Mario Brother sounds when opened and closed. Not only is it a vehicle, but it also doubles as a game system. The “key” is a special game cartridge powers the car and makes sound when put in or taken out. To start the car, you need to push a red game button. The seat belt clamps double as game controllers, while the front headlights offers a projection of the game. The rear of the vehicle has a different projection system. The interior has seats inspired by the Activision color scheme, while the exterior is designed to look like a game controller with the wheels looking like buttons.

This was part of the Pixel Pushers exhibit.
