Nice footage from last month’s ACT NOW Benefit concert featuring Bambu, Roscoe Umali, and Far East Movement. Great to see the Asian American community stepping up to help out the victims of the Philippine typhoons.

Lucy liu is promoting a film she both produced and narrated called “Redlight”. The documentary film is about children sold into human trafficking. It follows several girls over the course of four years as they are kidnapped and sold to brothels in Cambodia. Human trafficking is the third most profitable business in the world after weapons and drugs trading. It’s going to take awhile before we can eradicate human trafficking. Watch some of the clips below.

Devastation continues to strike locations in the Pacific Ring of Fire. We’ve seen destruction from Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan, Typhoon Ondoy , and tsunami in Samoa. Now Indonesia is getting hit.
Rescue workers in Indonesia are desperately attempting to save thousands of residents who may be trapped under rubble after a 7.6 quake left behind mass devastation. The earthquake was on the same fault line as the quake the struck Indonesia in 2004. Most of the devastation was in Padang, the capital of West Sumatra.

A powerful Pacific Ocean earthquake has spawned towering tsunami waves that swept ashore on Samoa and American Samoa, flattening villages and killing more than 60 people. Waves were reported as high as 20ft. Tsunami warnings were placed on locations all around the Pacific Ocean including Japan, Hawaii, New Zealand and the West Coast of the US.
Why are there so many natural disasters recently such as Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan and Typhoon Ondoy (aka ketsana) in the Philippines?

Another major natural disaster hits Asia. (Recently, typhoon Morakot struck Taiwan.) This time the Philippines got hit. More than 17 inches of rain fell in just 12 hours as Tropical Storm Ketsana (aka Ondoy) slammed ashore in the Philippines, killing dozens of people in Manila’s worst flooding in decades. Tens of thousands of people are marooned by flashfloods in the region.
