How to make Far East Movement space helmets

How to make Far East Movement space helmets

Far East Movement fans, have you ever wondered how to make the space helmets that the guys of FM wear? The guy who created the helmets shares some of the secrets behind the helmet:

Sometime in the beginning of the year (2010) during a photoshoot for Far East Movement, the guys were holding on to their space helmets, tucked under their arm, and I thought to myself… wouldn’t it be cool if they lit up? The idea was proposed to the guys, and they were all for it. I first did a preliminary mockup with regular 3V LED’s, but they weren’t bright enough. In the final version, I would instead go for the 12V strip led’s instead, which shine much brighter. The lights run off of 2 series 9V batteries (with a load R to dissipate 5.5V) and are controlled via push switch. Over time these helmets would fall apart due to how much these guys jump around and move on stage and would later have to be bolted down for further support.

Music in the video is Animal by Far East Movement. See the space helmets in action in “Girls on the Dance Floor” music video.

iPhone 4 Commercial – Asian Dad Parody

iPhone 4 Commercial - Dad Parody

Check out this parody of the iPhone 4 commercials currently playing. An Asian dad gets a new iPhone as a gift from his son. Like most Asian parents with technology, he doesn’t know how to use the phone with the Facetime app correctly. BTW – you might recognize the Asian Dad from Jon Gosselin’s Match.com Commercial. He’s comedian Eugene Cordero. (See his Manny Pacquiao song “Sometimes When I Punch”.)

Here’s a few more technology commercial parodies: PC vs Mac – Kylie parody and iPhone by OPM Comedy.

Headset reads your brainwaves with Tan Le
The technology behind Professor X’s (X-men) headset is moving a step closer. You’ll can now move things with your mind. Here’s more about this video:

Tan Le’s astonishing new computer interface reads its user’s brainwaves, making it possible to control virtual objects, and even physical electronics, with mere thoughts (and a little concentration). She demos the headset, and talks about its far-reaching applications.

Stay through the end to see a wheelchair application. For better results, connect this wireless headset to the brain controlled wheelchair. Professor X technology coming soon than you think.

(Thanks to Vy T for the tip.)

More about Tan Le

Tan Le is the co-founder and president of Emotiv Systems, a firm that’s working on a new form of remote control that uses brainwaves to control digital devices and digital media. It’s long been a dream to bypass the mechanical (mouse, keyboard, clicker) and have our digital devices respond directly to what we think. Emotiv’s recently released EPOC headset uses 16 sensors to listen to activity across the entire brain. Software “learns” what each user’s brain activity looks like when one, for instance, imagines a left turn or a jump.

Neuroscientists have expressed varying views about Emotiv’s headset and technology — electrical activity in the brain is notoriously difficult to decode — but it does work. It is a natural for gaming, where ever more complex environments demand more complex inputs. But it’s also a potential gamechanger for accessibility apps, such as steering a wheelchair. Le herself has an extraordinary story — a refugee from Vietnam at age 4, she entered college at 16 and has since become a vital young leader in her home country of Australia.
