Jeremy Lin 2012 Thanksgiving Event

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Jeremy Lin and coach Kelvin Sampson reached out to Houston community. They joined the efforts of Kids’ Meals of Houston, a community partner of the Rockets organization that provides meals to homes of families in need. After concerning shortages for more than a hundred families, the Jeremy Lin Foundation and the Houston Rockets collaborated to provide more food. Families showed much appreciation as Lin and Sampson handed large bags filled with Thanksgiving provisions made possible through the Jeremy Lin Foundation. Sentiments of gratitude were mutual as Lin showed consistent enthusiasm for photos with fans, revealing that he was as much of a fan of the community as they were of his. “There are a lot of things people take for granted every day and the Foundation tries to encourage a grateful attitude during Thanksgiving and after, which is just as important,” Lin said.

The story of goalie Daniel Cui is being used as part of the Facebook Stories campaign. In his freshman year, goalie Daniel Cui played on the varsity soccer team of his school in Hillsborough, CA. The team lost all it’s games by a large margin and much of the blame fell on him. Someone posted photos of Daniel on facebook labeling him the worst goalie ever. Instantly, he got a lot of negative attention and didn’t want to go to school. With Daniel Cui becoming the scapegoat for the losing season, his friends on the team found a photo of him making a save. His teammates created a profile picture and made it their profile pic on facebook. Soon, the whole high school rallied to defend him by making D Cui their profile pic. More than 100 students changed their profile pictures to a photo of Cui making a save. With newfound confidence, Cui returned the next season to play the game of his life and lead his team to a win. Jeremy Lin in GQ November 2012 cover

NBA star Jeremy Lin has landed on the cover of GQ for the November 2012 issue. Just as he’s about to begin the new NBA season as a Houston Rocket, Jeremy Lin returns to New York City for his photo shoot and interview for GQ. In the GQ article, he discusses his desire to stay with the New York Knicks stating “I really wanted to play in front of the Madison Square Garden fans for the rest of my career, because they’re just unbelievable.” Although he’s no longer with the Knicks, he still has plenty of supporters in the Big Apple as he reminisces about Linsanity earlier this year. He’s still amazed by his run saying “I mean, to literally go from ‘If I score two, three, or four points today, it’s a good day’ to setting the record for the most points scored in your first five starts of any NBA player.” Jeremy Lin has inspired people from the USA to Asia with his time in New York. Even with that spectacular run, Lin faced uncertainty when trying to secure a free agency contract in the NBA.

People were certain that he would remain a part of the Knicks, but the off-season got ugly with only one offer from the Rockets, the Knicks with other plans for point guard, and former teammate blasting his contract with the Houston Rockets. His plan to be a Knick forever vanished and he ended up in Houston. He opens a new chapter as a Rocket this season, but not without doubters as he is still improving as a player. Lin says, “I mean, obviously I don’t always agree with everyone who says, ‘He’s at most a backup point guard,’ things like that. I’m trying to find a balance. I’m not like the next Michael Jordan, but I’m also not what everyone saw me as before I started playing in the NBA, either.” As he finds his balance in the game, he also trying to find a balance off court by staying true to himself and the player fans need him to be.
