Teruo Artistry party at Gallery 1018 in Los Angeles

If you’re in Los Angeles this Saturday, check out an art/music show for urban clothing company, Teruo Artistry. There will be live art, live music, and live fashion. Check out clothing designs and artwork from Teruo Artistry’s Timothy Watters, who was inspired by his grandfather. Live music by singer Jessi Malay. (FYI – both Timothy Wattters and Jessi Malay are HAPA.) Don Chow Tacos, a Chinese Taco truck, will also be there. Also looks like there will be an open bar. Here’s the details for the event:

BANANA – Infamous Asian American Bloggers Unite to Chop It Up

If you’re in the Los Angeles are on November 21, 2009, be sure to check out BANANA, where Infamous Asian American Bloggers Unite to Chop It Up. This is probably the largest group of Asian American bloggers ever assembled. The event is organized by author Lac Su (I Love Yous Are For White People) and television/film producer Steve Nguyen (channelAPA.com LA correspondent). It’s an opportunity to meet the people behind your favorite blogs as well as hear important discussions about the future of our voice, where it will lead to, and how we can come together to find common grounds and focused endeavors to voice our opinions about relevant issues affecting our community. The event will be held on the USC campus on November 21, 2009.

Bloggers slated to appear include Angry Asian Man, Minority Militant, 8Asians, Hyphen Magazine, Asian Pacific Americans for Progress, Mochi Magazine, VisualizAsian, Neaato (Network of Entertaining Asian American Talent), Antisocial Ladder, Bicoastal Bitchin’, Soompi, DVAN (Diasporic Vietnamese American Network), Channel APA, AZNRaps, AArising, Nikkei View, and Kimchi Mamas.

Other bloggers that can’t make it but will still support the event include Alpha Asian, Disgrasian, Asian American Movement, and BigWowo.

Giant Robot Biennale 2 : 15 years

If you’re in Los Angeles, drop by the Japanese American National Museum and take a peek at the Giant Robot Biennale 2 : 15 years exhibition. The exhibit is curated by Giant Robot co-founder and co-editor Eric Nakamura and highlights artists associated with the magazine over the past 15 years. Featured artists include David Choe, James Jean, Souther Salazar, Theo Ellsworth, kozyndan, Stella Lai, Jack Long, Albert Reyes, Jeff Soto, Rob Sato, and Deth P. Sun. Check it out until January 24, 2010.

As part of the program, there will be a screening of Dirty Hands: The Art and Crimes of David Choe on November 12, 2009. This film rocks. Be sure to see it, if you’ve never seen it.

Hey bboys and bgirls. World Champion BBoy Gamblerz Crew from South Korea is coming to Los Angeles to do a FREE performance and teach you a bboy class. Members of the Gamblerz who will be coming to LA are: Soul Soy, Bruce Lee, King So, Sick, The End, Pop, Zesty, and Cosmic Rocket.

On November 7, 2009, they will be performing at a FREE show at the Hacienda Plaza in Hacienda Heights, CA along with Kaba Modern, VuDoo Soul, Seriously, and more. Following that event on Sunday, November 8th they will be teaching workshops from 12 to 4pm at the 4C the Power Center in Hacienda Heights, CA. We Are One Celebirty Benefit concert for Philippines

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, check out this benefit concert for the Typhoon victims in the Philippines. Enjoy a great night of music while you support a great cause.

“We Are One!”, a one-night only benefit concert to raise funds for typhoons Ondoy and Parma disaster relief in the Philippines, will be held on Thursday, October 22 at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California beginning at 6:00pm. Typhoon Ondoy violently struck Manila and portions of neighboring provinces on September 25 causing massive flooding and more devastation than Hurricane Katrina. Hundreds of people have died with many more still missing and hundreds of thousands have been displaced by the destruction to homes and property. Just last week, typhoon Parma devastated the mountain regions of Northern Luzon , causing landslides and additional flooding and adding to the on-going fatality count.

The evening will include appearances by actress/singer NIA PEEPLES (“Fame”, “Walker Texas Ranger” “ North Shore ”) and actor MARK DACASCOS (ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”, “The Crow”). Scheduled to perform are legendary singer and actress KUH LEDESMA, actors/singers/musicians THE BASCO BROTHERS, spoken word artist ARIANNA BASCO, singer TORI BERBA, actor/singer/comedian/director BERNARDO BERNARDO, jazz vocalist MON DAVID, LITO VILLAREAL and ANTOINE REYNALDO DIEL of the “Three Filipino Tenors”, R&B singer/songwriter J-RICZ, Pinoy pop/rock band THE INTROVOYS, singers BAMBI LOPEZ and MARICAR CABRERA, modern dance artist JOANNE MALLILLIN, acapella group PRIME NOTE ENSEMBLE, “YouTube” sensation singer/songwriter/musician AJ RAFAEL, heavy metal band SCARRED, rising singing sensation EDSEL GODWIN SOTIANGCO, singer/actress ANTOINETTE TAUS, performer LARA AVENGOZA ,student group USC TROY PHILIPPINES and contemporary Christian group BOCES.

“America’s Best Dance Crew” champions QUEST CREW (Season 3) and WE ARE HEROES (newly crowned champions of Season 4) will be on hand as well as Tony Award winning singer and actress LEA SALONGA, to perform a couple of songs. Hosts for “We Are One!” include KTLA News anchor CHER CALVIN, acclaimed Philippine director MICHAEL DE MESA and actress, singer, dancer, model GISELLE TONGI.
