The Blind Project

The Blind Project

We saw this spotlighted on the YouTube homepage. The Blind Project is a collective of passionate individuals uniting together, leveraging our unique talents to empower women exploited by the commercial sex trade in Southeast Asia.

The Issue: The problem is clear. Right now millions of women and children are enslaved and exploited in the multi-billion dollar commercial sex trade. Victims of the commercial sex trade are treated like meaningless commodities. They are sold and bought, resold and bought again. Often times even when women are rescued, many fall back into the trade because of limited resources, scarce economic opportunities and/or social stigmas.

Babies and Mother’s Day

Since it’s Mother’s Day, we thought we’d post some clips from the movie Babies. Here’s some of the Asian babies doing some cute and funny things. This visually stunning new movie simultaneously follows four babies around the world – from first breath to first steps. From Mongolia to Namibia to San Francisco to Tokyo, BABIES joyfully captures on film the earliest stages of the journey of humanity that are at once unique and universal to us all. Happy Mother’s Day!

Here’s more about some of the Asian babies:

Bayar
Born in Mongolia, Bayarjargal, usually called “Bayar” for short, lives with his mother, father, and older brother Delgerjargal (“Degi”). Bayar is two years younger than Degi, who is very curious about (and slightly jealous of) his newborn brother. This baby’s good nature and easygoing personality make for some very funny brotherly interactions! Bayar’s family lives on their small family farm, where Bayar wanders around on his own from a very young age, playing with animals and exploring his surroundings – but his parents are never very far away.

Mari
Mari lives with her mother and father in Shibuya, a busy metropolitan area within Tokyo, at the center of all of the city’s noise and excitement. Mari is an only child and lives the contemporary urban lifestyle, walking around city streets when not in the family’s apartment that has a view of the city skyline. Mari loves to visit toy stores, play with the family’s pet cat, and go to baby play groups. In the movie, she is notable for her dramatic reactions to, and frustrations with, everyday life.

Chopstick stuck in boy’s nose

We seen cute kids playing the ukulele, the drums, even hip hop dancing. This one’s got a chopstick up his nose. 14-month-old Li Jingchao was playing around and somehow got a chopstick stuck up his nose, 4cm into his skull. Luckily, the doctor’s were able to remove the chopstick without harm to the kid.

Lesson learned for 2010 : don’t stick chopsticks up your nose.
