What happened to the Indonesian smoking baby?

What happened to the Indonesian smoking baby?

Last year, a viral video was circulating with a Indonesian baby smoking about 2 packs a day. The toddler on Sumatra was apparently hooked on nicotine after being introduced to cigarettes. The show “Vanguard” located the infamous “Smoking Baby” Aldi. With the help of the Indonesian government, the kid is now a 2-year-old ex-smoker. He now says ‘Don’t smoke’. In a tiny village with no internet access, Aldi’s mother explains how she craved cigarettes while she was pregnant. A hundred yards away from the family’s home, a small shop sells cigarettes – including Sampoerna Mild, Aldi’s brand of choice, made by Philip Morris. The company that brought you the Malboro man also helped create the image of a kid smoking cigarettes.

Look for the full episode of “Sex, Lies & Cigarettes” on Current TV. The episode charts Big Tobacco’s attempt to expand its reach into Indonesia, which by all accounts has become the “Wild West” of cigarette marketing and promotion.

Two Asian American-backed non-profits that channelAPA.com has been following are getting together for a fundraiser. The Jubilee Project is partnering with The Supply to build the first secondary school in Lenana, Kenya. (It’s the same one Kevjumba is backing.) This school would service orphans and slum children in Lenana, providing them with an affordable education and advancing their educational pursuits.

The mission of The Supply is to empower and transform communities through education. They move from village to village in developing countries working with local schools and community leaders on educational projects that secure the education for all children. In their most recent campaign, The Supply is aiming to raise $50,000 to build a secondary school that would service orphans and slum children in Lenana, providing them with an affordable education and advancing their educational pursuits.

For every view that the video receives until July 31st, sponsors will each donate a penny. Help spread the word.

Asian Mini Warbler performing Raise Your Glass

Remember that Asian Mini Warbler performing Teenage Dream a few weeks back? Well, he’s back with his Warbler outfit and ready to sing another song from GLEE. Kellen Mirador Sarmiento does another Darren Criss impression with a move by move remake. His song of choice is Raise Your Glass by Pink. Still love that Warbler suit.

What’s the next song he’ll do off the Warblers album?
