channelAPA.com chopped it up with musician, actor, artist, and performer Kato. He shares about his background in music. His unique blend of classical music and hip hop has opened many doors for him. He describes his music as “counterpoint,” which is breaking the mold of traditional styles of music. His upcoming album pulls from jazz, pop, hip hop, classical, and more. One of his tracks “Col Legno” off his Glissando album is already getting radio play on Chicago radio. Look for several music videos from Kato coming soon. More about Kato
What sets Kato apart is his unique life experiences that inspires his art. Born in Chicago into a lineage of public servants, his Asian American roots influenced his understanding of the American dream. Classically trained in cello from a young age and excelling in academics and sports, Kato checked every box for the model minority. In 2001, Kato volunteered for the Army and attended West Point. After graduating, he was honorable discharged. Saddened by a medically shortened Army career but looking forward to a new challenge, Kato worked at a hedge fund while his alter ego pursued music at night. Word grew about his talent and soon Kato’s hobby had him writing music for Grammy winners. With a passion for music and a desire to be heard, Kato up and quit his job when most were struggling to hold on to theirs. With original music, Kato opened for acts like the Wu-Tang, KRS One and Keith Murray, finding himself in the midst of the hip hop industry. Performing around the country at festivals like SXSW and appearing at multiple MTV awards shows and events, Kato started gaining recognition from fans and industry insiders. Increasing his artistic range, Kato started to act, eventually landing a lead theater role in Chicago. While hip hop accepted his uniqueness it also placed pressure on Kato to conform in style and stiffed creativity. In episode 5 of the online webseries “30 Days With Charice,” Charice Pempengco jet sets from the US to Japan. This girl is going global. It’s her first time in Tokyo. In an effort to break in to the #2 music market, she sits down with the press to tell her story and sing a few songs. While she’s out in Tokyo, Charice also squeezes in a photo shoot for her Japanese album cover. Towards the end of the video, she busts out some Japanese too.

Behind the scenes with Jeremy Lin

Before Jeremy Lin was assigned to the NBA D-League, he did a couple videos with the Golden State Warriors. In the first video, he gives a tour of his Bay Area high school (Palo Alto High School) and reminisces on his journey from Palo Alto to Harvard to professional basketball. As he roams the halls of his old stomping ground, he talks about the influences of his coaches. Up to this point in his young basketball career, his top three moments are: winning the state championship in high school, defeating top ranked Boston College at Harvard, and signing with the Golden State Warriors. In the second video, he sits down with Warriors broadcaster Tim Roye for an interview to discusses his transition to the NBA. Not only is he adapting to the change of pace with the NBA, but he’s also learning to adjust to his role as a point guard. His defensive skills are ahead of his offensive skills, which still needs some development. Jeremy Lin also talks about this pre-game routine.
