MTV Japanese game show host wanted

The Japanese game show import continues. We have seen ABC add Wipeout and I survived a Japanese Game show to their lineup over the summer. FOX recently added Hole in the Wall . This time on MTV takes a stab at a Japanese game show import.

MTV is searching for a host for a fun, Japanese game show pilot. They’re looking for outgoing, articulate, spirited males who appear to be between the ages of 21 – 35 and appear to be Japanese or of Japanese descent. Candidates must possess bold personalities and a devilish sense of humor.

People that exude a lot of enthusiasm, have wicked personalities, distinct styles and possess a unique charm on tape should apply ASAP. It is an amazing opportunity for the right talent, so please email nycastingteam@gmail.com with a headshot / pic and let them know why you’d be the perfect game show host. Must be well-versed in the English language. Union and non-union okay. Taping will be in New York. Television credits are not necessary. Improv / comedy backgrounds are a plus. There will be compensation.

UPDATE:

Zero Kazama – host of MTV Silent library

The new show for MTV is based on the hit Japanese game show, Gaki no Tsukai (Silent Library). Essentially, 6 friends get together in a library and have to perform hilarious tasks. The catch is you have to be quiet or you get kicked out of the library. The tasks are not dangerous, just funny. With each task you complete, you and your friends win money. For instance, you have to watch your friend perform karate with panty hose over his face. But you can’t laugh! Or one of you has to wear a “smelly helmet” for 1 minute and the rest of you can’t laugh.

Hole in the Wall

The latest craze for TV execs are the importing of Japanese games shows. Over the summer, we had Wipeout and I survived a Japanese Game show. Now with Hole in the Wall will appear on Fox.

During each episode, two teams of three compete against each other in multiple rounds of play, facing various barrier walls with weird and wacky cut-out shapes speeding toward them. Each team must contort their bodies either individually or in unison to fit through the wall or be swept away into a pool below. As players struggle to strike a pose, points – and dignity – can be easily lost with a simple miscalculation. As the rounds progress and the pace heats up, mind over matter, quick thinking, coordination, agility and clever teamwork play a crucial role as each team strives to maneuver through walls literally closing in on them. The winning team will win $25,000 and the chance to compete against the dreaded “Blind Wall” for an additional $100,000.

Let us know what you think of this Japanese game show craze.

Hole in the Wall on FOX in September

We wrote about Human Tetris to be on FOX a few months ago. The show will start airing in September. This comes as Wipeout is picked up for a second season on ABC.

Hole in the Wall, the body-bending, mind-twisting, global game show phenomenon from AMERICAN IDOL producers FremantleMedia North America, will premiere Thursday, Sept. 11 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Hole in the Wall became an instant ratings success story on-air and online after launching on Japan’s Fuji TV in July 2006, where it continues to rank No. 1 in its timeslot. The format swiftly created waves around the world, with FremantleMedia currently producing versions in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia, Sweden and the U.K.

Hosted by Brooke Burns (“Dog Eat Dog”) and Mark Thompson (“Guinness World Records: Primetime”), Hole in the Wall is one of the trickiest, fastest, funniest and wettest shows on the planet where speed, agility and a hearty sense of humor are essential tools to survive. During each episode, two teams of three compete against each other in multiple rounds of play, facing various barrier walls speeding toward them with weird and wacky cut-out shapes. Each team must contort their bodies individually or in unison to fit through the wall or be swept away into a pool below. As players struggle to strike a pose, points and dignity can be easily lost with a simple miscalculation. As the rounds progress and the pace heats up, mind over matter, quick thinking, coordination, agility and clever teamwork play a crucial role as each team strives to maneuver through walls literally closing in on them. The team with the most points at the end of the competition will win $25,000 and the chance to face the dreaded “Blind Wall” for the opportunity to win an additional $100,000.
