2009 Hawaii International Film Festival Trailer

The official trailer for the 2009 Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) is finally out. The trailer stars Daniel Dae Kim from LOST and some sweet special effect.

Not only does HIFF have a cool trailer, but they also have a cool line up as well. Here’s some highlights:

Closing Night Film – The Warrior and the Wolf

Other films of note 9500 Liberty, All About Dad, Barbarian Princess, Beast Stalker, Ip Man, Children of Invention, Ong Bak 2, The People I’ve Slept With, Whatever It Takes, and White on Rice. There are some great shorts programs. Among them are A Song For Ourselves and Half Kenneth. In the music video program, you’ll see Eat You Up by BOA and Hibi no Neiro by SOUR. In October, there may be an Asian American film festivals in your area including the 2009 DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival (October 1-10, 2009), the 2009 Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival (October 9-11, 2009), the 2009 San Diego Asian Film Festival (October 15-29, 2009), and the 2009 Hawaii International Film Festival (October 15-25, 2009).

2009 ID Film Fest

The second annual ID Film Fest, a festival dedicated to contemporary digital films that explore and celebrate identity within the diverse Asian/Pacific Islander community, will present an international and local line-up of films Thursday, Oct. 1 through Saturday, Oct. 3. The films will be a mix of ground breaking Asian American films from 1997 (Yellow, Shopping with the Fangs) as well as North American Premieres of Hong Kong Indie films and Japanese American Shorts. The films will be showcased at the Japanese American National Museum’s state of the art Democracy Forum in the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, located at 111 N. Central Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Get more details here.

2009 Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival Trailer Winners

Watch the Top 3 videos from the 2009 Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival Trailer Contest. The panel of judges, which included music video and documentary film director Todd Angkasuwan (music videos for Snoop Dogg, Far East Movement & many more), producer Philip Lam (Santa Mesa & Undoing) and Cliff Song, representing sponsor HBO, selected “Flying Away to the Movies” as the winner. You might need to view the video several times since you’ll see new things every time you watch it. Here’s a synopsis:

A young boy leaves his static television world and follows a flying film reel, taking a journey to find inspiration in movies at Philadelphia’s very own Chinatown Arch where the opening night film of the festival is about to begin.

The festival runs from October 9-11, 2009. The PAAFF lineup has some of the hottest Asian American films on the festival circuit this year.
