Asian American second grade teacher : Target commercial

Asian American second grade teacher : Target commercial

This Target commercial with an Asian American second grade teacher has been playing on TV. It’s going to be a big year in her classroom. Kids will learn about the former planet Pluto, fraction, dinosaurs, and much more. Amongst these class room activities, the second graders will take care of two adventurous hamsters (Lewis and Clark). With all that learning, they need some back-to-school supplies from Target. It’s bound to be a fun year. Wish we had a teacher like this growing up.

Update: the actress playing the Asian American teacher is Tania Gunadi, not Charice as some people are claiming online.

Check out this other Target commercial with an Asian American family.

Lyrics to Material Girls by Naya Marie

Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
I think they’re okay
If they don’t give me proper credit
I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they can’t see the light, that’s right, that’s right
‘Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mister Right

‘Cause we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
That’s alright with me
If they can’t raise my interest then I
Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don’t let them play, no way, no way
Only boys that save their pennies
Make my rainy day

‘Cause they are living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Living in a material world
(Material)
Living in a material world
Living in a material world
(Material)
Living in a material world

Boys may come and boys may go
And that’s alright you see
Experience has made me rich
And now they’re after me

‘Cause everybody’s living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

A material, a material
A material, a material world

Living in a material world
(Material)
Living in a material world
Living in a material world
(Material)
Living in a material world

Living in a material world
(Material)
Living in a material world
Living in a material world
(Material)
Living in a material world

Save Your Money, ‘Cause I’m a Material Girl

Empire of Silver Trailer

Empire of Silver Trailer

Inspired by historical events, the film EMPIRE OF SILVER features a “piaohao,” Chinese precursor to the modern-day bank. Piaohao controlled the financial world of China like Wall Street has controlled the US financial system. As lending institutions, piaohaos’ mainstay was money transfer. They were the inventors of a wiring system that was secured by secret codes, which enabled the businesses and governments to do transactions without shipping huge amounts of silver. The takes place in China’s Shanxi province is an area dubbed “the Wall Street of China”. Here’s more about the film:

China, 1899. A hedonistic young man must assume the role of heir to a banking empire he cares little about. Following the tragic kidnapping of his brother’s wife, “Third Master” (Aaron Kwok) reluctantly submits to pressure from his overbearing father. Powerful bank-owner Lord Kang (Tielin Zhang) is determined to prepare Third Master for financial leadership by molding his son into his own image. The ruthless businessman tries to convince his son to choose a proven unscrupulous bank manager over a more honest one. But the idealistic Third Master has always questioned his father’s autocratic rule and ethics. The tense relationship is further complicated by Third Master’s undying love for his beautiful young stepmother (Hao Lei), his first and only love stolen from him by his own father. Embarking on a metaphysical journey, Third Master must decide whether to follow his father’s path or find his own. Greed, deception and jealousy surface under the pressures of war and the impending change from silver to paper bills …

Look for this timely film about financial crisis to hit a theater near you soon.

McDonald’s Frozen Strawberry Lemonade commercial : Asian American edition with Victor Kim and Yuri Tag

McDonald's Frozen Strawberry Lemonade commercial : Asian American edition

Former America’s Best Dance Crew contestants Victor Kim (Quest Crew) and Yuri Tag (Kaba Modern) show their new dance moves in this McDonald’s commercial for Frozen Strawberry Lemonade. Victor Kim wears yellow showing his break dancing skills, while Yuri Tag sports the red demonstrating her ballet moves. Together they make a great combination. It’s the sweet taste of strawberry and the tart taste of lemon. I’m lovin’ it.
