FM SATELLITES – Episode 9

The FAR EAST MOVEMENT hit the Interscope Records office to bomb the Cherrytree Records headquarters for a live performance on the Cherrytree House acoustic sessions on Cherrytreerecords.com. Instead of rocking an acoustic set, FM turns the Cherrytree office into Club Cherrybomb and performs a new song off their upcoming album currently being worked on. This is a preview of the performance and the first glimpse of the song “GO APE”. DJ BrassMonkey in the house.

Look for the next Far East Movement album to drop late 2010. The album won’t disappoint with music like this. We can’t wait.

Static Noyze on America’s Best Dance Crew

Tune into America’s Best Dance Crew Thursday night and keep you eyes on Static Noyze. Here’s little more about them:

Static Noyze has always felt like outcasts, never really feeling like they fit in with anyone but each other. Bored with what they call “stock hip hop” – routines and moves that they’ve seen before – this off-the-wall group of dancers promises to shake up the “ABDC” stage with their distinct style of dance. They consider themselves to be innovators and describe their dance style as hip-hop with a contemporary twist. What makes them truly unique though, is that they use their routines to convey offbeat stories told through cutting edge moves and costumes. Static Noyze does not mind being called odd. In fact, they embrace it. These eccentricities are what make Static Noyze such a unique group and they hope America finds their unconventionality charming.

Last week, we saw Jason “Caba” Cabacungan of Swagger Crew. Next week, we’ll see The Hype 5-0.

Rocky Rivera album release

Rocky Rivera (aka EyeASage) has release her solo debut album. Nearly two years in the making, her self-titled album dropped this week. Listen to the rich hip hop flavors on her tracks. Last year, she showed her skills in her music video MRSHMLO. You can also download a couple FREE tracks MRSHMLO Rmx by 6Fingers and Feelin’ My Shh for FREE. If you like what you hear, consider buying the album to support this indie artist by purchasing her album on Rocky Rivera - Rocky Rivera.

BTW – If you’re in the San Francisco area tonite, drop by her album release party.

MRSHMLO by Rocky Rivera

Rocky Rivera aka EyeASage is a Pinay emcee born in Angeles City, Philippines, and raised in San Francisco. Her love affair with the spotlight began as a young Hip-Hop dancer in the early 90s, armed with a Salt N Pepa cassette tape and a recurring role as the youngest b-girl in the crew. As she grew older and the path of Hip-Hop took a more aggressive turn into Gangster Rap, she struggled to continue her love of music and still find a place for a young woman to be herself.

It wasn’t until she entered San Francisco State as a journalism undergrad that she began to appreciate Hip Hop again as an active participant, giving up the choreographed dance routines for a microphone and a chance to make up for lost time. She began learning about her culture through ethnic studies classes, organizing with the League of Filipino Students, and reclaiming her identity through her writing. While organizing, she met Irene Faye Duller aka Shorty Rocwell of the 8th Wonder crew, and along with fellow organizers Valerie Francisco (Sho Shock), Natasha Pineda (Sola), and Liezel Rivera (Zelstarrr), they formed the Rhapsodistas in 2004.

Growing weary of Hip-Hop’s direction, she decided to fill the void and make music that balanced her city upbringing with social commentary. She’s been featured on the Native Guns Stray Bullets Vol.2 Mixtape, Bambu’s I Scream Bars for the Children, Roscoe Umali’s I Love My DJs street album, and Hopie Spitshard’s “The Diamond Dame”. Her first mixtape, Married to the Hustle, was released on February 14, 2008, and she has released her solo debut album, Rocky Rivera. You can hear her music on her Myspace Music Page at www.myspace.com/eyeasagemuzikpage, watch her videos at www.youtube.com/eyeasage and keep up with her daily on www.guerillabusfare.com.
