Are you ready for the return of Jeremy Lin to the NBA basketball court? He hits training camp this week with a much younger team in the Houston Rockets. With more certainty in his basketball career this year than a year ago, Jeremy Lin has more confidence and leadership qualities that he hopes will translate on the court in assertiveness and calling plays. “It was just a lot of uncertainty (last year),” says Lin. “It’s a different feeling for sure today, knowing that I’ll be around for a little longer. I think it gives me a little more confidence to be able to be assertive and be vocal and to make plays. It’s definitely very key for me to have that confidence (to lead).”
As the 24-year-old point guard enters his third NBA season, he’s not worried about Linsanity and wants his actions on the court to speak for itself. “I’m just going to keep my focus on the court,” Lin states. “I just want to make sure I get better and I help this team get better. To be honest that’s all that I can really do. I can’t really think about all the extracurricular stuff. Being at Golden State, it was a little similar in terms of … having my picture all over different things – that never turned out the way I wanted it to so I wanted to make sure I just stay ready.” He acknowledges that he’ll be making mistakes, but will learn from them as quickly as possible. To do this, he’s been analyzing footage of himself and other good point guards and seeing where he could have made better decisions. Lin says, “Definitely I find myself in the air too much. I need to stay on the ground and not get caught in bad situations. I have to cut down on lazy passes. Coach McHale calls them “same plane” passes where it’s one spot and I just fire in a direct line; I have to use more deception and different angles. Then I just have to solidify my left hand and dribbling and keeping guys from reaching in. Those things accounted for most of my turnovers last year.” If you’re itching to was him play again, you won’t have to wait long. The NBA season starts in about a week. ou can get tickets to see Jeremy Lin and the Houston Rockets here.
