Headlined by “Dance Moms'” Abby Lee Miller, the “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition” series will feature 12 of the country’s most talented girl and boy dancers competing for a $100,000 cash prize and a scholarship to the Young Dancer Program at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. Joining Miller at the judges table will be Robin Antin, founder of the pop group sensation Pussycat Dolls, and dancer and cutting-edge celebrity choreographer Richard Jackson (Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night”). Kevin Manno (MTV’s “The Seven”) will host.

Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition will begin by following a dozen aspiring dancers — ages six through 13 – who will learn new routines and compete in a number of challenges designed to test their skills when they perform before Miller, Antin and Jackson, as well as a live audience, at the historic Los Angeles Theatre. Along the way, each competitor will be accompanied and coached by his or her own mother, who will make critical training, costume, music and choreographic decisions for their child while also navigating the precarious waters of the other highly competitive parents. As Miller, Antin and Jackson must make the sometimes easy and other times difficult decision to eliminate one dancer each week, the intense on stage competition and stakes between dancers and mothers increase throughout the season – culminating with a finale performance that assuredly will change the winning dancer’s life forever.

Among the competitors are several Asian American parents and children including Maria and Lexine, Sabrina and Nicole, & Shayna and Tua:

Growing up in the Philippines and a Jazz dancer herself in high school, Maria enrolled her daughter Lexine, 11, in dance class because she saw her passion for the art. Her family watches Lexine compete in National Competitions and Maria’s aspirations for her daughter are that she becomes the best dancer she can be. As her daughter’s career grows, she wants her to be sought after by professionals in the industry and eventually becoming a well-paid dance performer. Her advice for Lexine in “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition” is that she stays prepared and focused. Maria says that if they win the $100,000 prize they will save for Lexine’s college fund and for her future dance training. Lexine and Maria currently live in Norco, California.

Originally from Taiwan and never having danced herself, Sabrina, 12, enrolled her daughter Nicole in dance classes, as she never got a chance to participate in the art while growing up. Sabrina is in charge of everything dance related, for Nicole, including doing her hair, make-up and costume design. Her aspirations for her daughter are that one day Nicole will teach dance to under privileged children. When giving her advice for “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition,” she told her to do her best and to work hard. If they win the $100,000 prize, Sabrina says they would donate the money to underprivileged children, providing them with dance classes, costumes and recitals. Sabrina and Nicole currently love in San Jose, California.

Originally from Hawaii and a dancer from a very young age, Shayna has performed in shows and parades at the Walt Disney World Resort and she was a Polynesian dancer for 10 years in SeaWorld’s Makahiki Luau. Shayna even teaches dance at the South Beach Dance Academy. With dance being such a huge part of her family’s culture, she explains that it was only natural for her daughter Tua, 9, and her sisters to take dance classes and her children have all been performing on stage since they could walk. With the whole family behind her, Shayna’s aspirations for Tua are for her to be successful at dancing, modeling and acting. When giving her daughter advice for “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition,” she told her daughter to dance hard, give it her all and to have a good attitude. If they win the $100,000 prize, Shayna explains that she would let Tua enjoy some of it now, but put the rest away for college and to help her start her life when she is older. Shayna and Tua currently reside in Daytona Beach, Florida.
