NBA hall of famer Wat Misaka was profiled by NBC news reporter Richard Lui recently. The first non-white NBA player stirred up his own LINsanity of sorts seven decades ago. “Kilo” Wat had a quick first step which gave him an advantage on the court. The New York Knicks knew this and selected Misaka as their very first draft pick in 1947. When WWII and internment camp rolled around, the uneasiness of the events had him feeling out of place. He struggled through it, but still made a name for himself in the NBA. Giving advice to a new Asian American NBA player, Wat Misaka wrote a letter to Knicks star Jeremy Lin — who is currently coping with an injured knee — to tell him to ‘hang in there.
