The world population has reached 7,000,000,000 (that’s 7 billion). The honor of hitting this milestone is baby Danica May Camacho, who was born at Manila’s Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in the Philippines. She came into the world at two minutes before midnight on Sunday, a tiny, wrinkled girl born into a struggling family. The 5.5-pound baby, who was born about a month premature, became a symbol of the world’s population reaching 7 billion people and all the worries that entails for the planet’s future. Even with all the concerns about the population count, the baby received a shower of gifts, from a chocolate cake marked “7B Philippines” to a gift certificate for shoes.
