DirecTV has been running The Whale commercial with comedian Dat Phan on TV the past few weeks. He walks through a Asian themed abode with a giant Koi fish, giant Panda, and tall women as he talks of his whale status at the casino. And of course he’s accented. It’s all set to the tune of Buffalo Springfield’s For What It’s Worth, which you might know from Forrest Gump. The past few DirecTV commercials Russian Billionaire with the mini Giraffe and the African American boxer “The Truth” seem to rely on stereotypes to push their product. This happens to be the Asian character version of the ad campaign. Don’t think this would get us to subscribe to their service.
Ken Jeong as Slim Chin is better, but we really like what Target is doing with Asian American second grade teacher commercial.
DirecTV The Whale Commercial with Dat Phan
Yes, yes! The fish is real! sigh. Agreed – this commercial is so lame.
The dark haired girl is HOT!! Who is she ? I would love to see more of her. No pun intended . Whats her name ?
I HATE this commercial. It’s not from a PC point of view. I just don’t like it.. it’s annoying, not funny.. I just don’t like it at all.
