Freddie Wong, Brandon Laatsch, and Joe Penna were on a panel at USC talking about their backgrounds and YouTube experience. They share some great insights on how they got started with Youtube and how they became internet famous. We learned a lot from FreddieW and MysteryGuitarMan on this YouTube panel from getting instant feedback to creating unique videos.
Freddie Wong and Brandon Laatsch comprise FreddieW. The two met at USC on the cinema floor, and started making short videos. After graduation, Brandon and Freddie worked on direct-to-DVD and direct-to-TV feature films, with Freddie producing a feature film “Bear” in 2009. In March of 2010, they both decided to focus on creating content for YouTube and have been doing so full time ever since. Joe Penna is a successful, young director originally from São Paulo, Brazil. Within a few months, his channel, MysteryGuitarMan, rose from obscurity to become the 6th most subscribed of all time. His visionary style and playful content has pushed YouTube videos out of the realm of user-generated content and into the world of independent art.
