channelAPA.com met director Yu Gu during the 2011 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. While there, we talked to her about her short film “A Moth In Spring”. Here’s more about the 25 minute documentary:
Amidst the production of a dramatic film about her father’s departure from China during the 1989 Student Democracy Movement, Yu Gu was shut down by China’s Ministry of Culture. Chronicling her filmmaking process in China, issues of artistic freedom rise to the forefront and confirm a daughter and fathers common histories. Weaving narrative, experimental, and vérité footage, Gu’s documentary shines a light behind remaining barriers.
You can catch this short in the month of May on HBO on Demand as part of APA Heritage Month. Also on HBO this month is the series “East Of Main Street“.
