Yet another Asian singer/band is trying to crossover to the US. This time it’s Yoshiki & X-Japan. Yoshiki has been called the Bono of Japan. The drummer, pianist , and songwriter of the rock band X-Japan has a branded Visa card, a fragrance line, a race car team, and the first person to have a Hello Kitty doll named after him. He’s a classically trained pianist, but influenced by KISS and Metallica. With all the success in Asia, the next stop for Yoshiki & X-Japan is the USA. This past week, X-Japan played its first big U.S. show at Lollapalooza in Chicago. The band has an upcoming English album to be released in the fall followed by a U.S. tour. Their music has been described as Anthrax meets Celine Dion. Will they succeed in their quest to break into the US mainstream with J-Rock?
