Half-life, the acclaimed 2008 Sundance film directed by Jennifer Phang, combines live action with amazing animation to tell the powerful story of three young people. Scott Parker (Leonardo Nam), a Korean adoptee, struggles in a closeted relationship as he tries to come out to his fundamentalist parents. In his effort to communicate with them, he inadvertently jeopardizes his boyfriend’s job and their entire relationship. Meanwhile, Scott’s jaded best friend Pam (Sanoe Lake) and her precocious brother Timothy (Alexander Agate) must deal with their mother’s younger, charming, and manipulative boyfriend. Using their imaginative powers, they escape their confining home life and reinvent their world in a mind-bending conclusion.
