Democrat John Liu won a decisive victory by defeating Republican Joe Mendola,76% to 19%, in the race for New York City Comptroller. The Queens Councilman made history as he becomes the first Asian-American elected to citywide office in NYC. (We find this hard to believe, but it’s true. First Asian American to hold a city wide office in New York). Some people are already talking about a possible run for mayor in 2013.
And an update to our previous post Asian Americans win Democratic primaries in NYC. Other NYC results have Peter Koo (R) defeating Yen Chou (D) in a very tight race in District 20, Kevin Kim losing in a close race for District 19, and Margaret Chin taking NYC District 1 (Chinatown). Margaret Chin is the first Asian American to represent New York’s Chinatown.
Congrats to all the winners. Now the hard work begins.
