Dr. Sanjay Gupta talks post traumatic stress disorder
Dr. Gupta – Thank you so very much for this honest and personal look at PTSD and how simply and quickly memory can infect both body and mind.
As a trauma survivor who has finally healed (after struggling with chronic/extreme, undiagnosed PTSD for 25 years), I hope you'll help me spread the word by encouraging people that this is not necessarily a life sentence.
It takes time, a lot of work and it's a terribly tough road to travel, but we can heal PTSD. I'm a PTSD advocate now and write a healing PTSD blog that hosts a free healing workshop; there are many PTSDers in various stages of recovery.
You're absolutely right in what you say in this clip: helplessness is a large component at the root of PTSD.
Trauma strips us of our power; when we take it back we begin to heal.
