Tim Lincecum became the second pitcher in San Francisco Giants history, joining 1967 winner Mike McCormick, to win the National League Cy Young Award. Lincecum captured 23 of 32 first-place votes and collected 137 points. Arizona’s Brandon Webb was second with four first-place votes. The 24-year-old pitcher led the league witha .783 winning percentage with his 18-5 record and recorded 265 strikeouts. Against Lincecum, opponents had a .221 batting average and .167 with runners in scoring position while averaging 7.22 hits per nine innings — all league lows. His 2.62 ERA was the NL’s second best and never lost consecutive starts. Lincecum is also part Filipino on his mother’s side.
In addition to winning the Cy Young award, Lincecum will be on the cover of MLB 2K9.
