Meredith Vieira dared Ann Curry to do something out of her comfort zone. Telling jokes scare her. The half Japanese co-host is the straight women on the Today Show, so she enrolled in comedy school to prepare a routine at Caroline’s Comedy Club. Ann got help from a wide range of people including celebrity comedians like Gilbert Gottfried, Susie Essman, Richard Belzer, and Judah Friedlander from 30 Rock. She even passed out flyers on the streets of New York for her comedy show.
Ann Curry was nervous going to the routine. Her comic style is a tamer version of Margaret Cho. She uses a bad Asian accent in part of her set.
