Filipino singing sensation Charice Pempengco had a busy week kicking it with both Oprah and Celine Dion. On Monday, Charice sang a duet with Celine Dion at Madison Square Garden. Most of the singing was done by Charice with Celine backing her vocals. Charice got a standing ovation.
Charice’s path to fame was not an easy one. She grew up in poverty in the Philippines, where she witnessed her own father try to kill her mother, who has been her voice coach since she was 4 years old.
The tragedies of the past has changed for the better for Charice. TV host Oprah Winfrey has agreed to manage the singing her singing career in the US. Charice has already performed twice on The Oprah Winfrey Show with a future show expected to be dedicated entirely to the young singer.
